Stories are references to the ethical behaviour of a particular company.
Stories added after December 2024 are part of a new scoring system.
For each company there will always be stories on Climate, Workers, Animals, Tax and Company Ethos with additional stories depending on the markets in which the operate — for example, a Materials story for a clothing company.
In the old system stories are organised according to the 5 main categories and 19 sub-categories.
Search
The search tool can be used to search subject areas on a wide range of search terms, such as palm oil or tax avoidance.
If the database contains information on the subject you have entered, it will return a table of stories under the following headings:
- Title of the story - click to view the full story
- Company that the story refers to - click to go the company profile page.
- Date when the story was published
- Category - which of the categories the story is placed in.
You can sort the table by Company name, Date or Category.
Refine by Category
Click on 'Refine by Category' to view all the main categories and the sub-categories that are featured in your results.
If you want to restrict the results to particular categories, tick the relevant box or boxes.
Refine by Date
By default, the table only shows stories up to five years old.
You can choose any date range by using the 'Refine by Date' slider.
The reason for the five year rule is that stories older than five years are discounted when calculating a company's Ethiscore rating.
Story details
To view a story simply click on the title of the story. This will then display in an overlay
Each story contains an abstract from a named and dated publication explaining a rating decision or summarising an incident, listing or criticism.
Alternatively, you can click on the company name and view all the stories relating to a company on the company profile page.
