Company Profile FAQs

Company Information

Basic information about the company, such as registered address, annual revenue, and official website.

Company Ethiscore

The Ethiscore is our own scoring system - a rating out of 100 that we give to companies and brands.

The higher the score, the more ethical the company is.

It indicates the severity and/or quantity of ethical criticisms found on an organisation in the last 5 years. The more stories and criticisms there are the more likely the company will receive a lower score.

We rate companies, brands and products based on the brand owner known as the ultimate holding company (UHC). This reflects the fact that the UHC ultimately has power over what a subsidiary company does.

We are rating companies every day, and scores on the tables update every 24 hours.

How scores are calculated

The scoring is based on a range of categories including climate, workers, tax, animals, company ethos and more. See more about our ratings on the main Ethical Consumer site

Companies gain or lose marks depending on the company’s policies and practices.

Details of why a company has been deducted or awarded points can be found under 'Ethical Stories'.

Only stories less than 5 years old are used to calculate the score.

Associated brands

Associated brands are those that are owned by the company. Some companies such as Nestle may own many brands, others such as Faith in Nature may only own one brand.

Ownership structure

The ownership structure shows who owns the company and any subsidiaries that the company has an ownership in. It also shows the % ownership.

This ownership could be by one company or by several.

Ethical stories

Stories are the main references to our research into this company. They are organised according to the catergories we use for rating companies.

To view a story simply click on the title of the story. Each story contains an abstract from a named and dated publication explaining a rating decision or summarising an incident, listing or criticism.

If there is no category heading it means that there are no stories in that category for that company.

Stories over 5 years old

By default the page shows all stories regardless of age.

However, only stories less than 5 years old are used to calculate the Ethiscore.

To only view stories less than 5 years old, un-tick the 'Show stories older than 5 years old' box.
